    Five Portals to The Real
  • Introduction

When it comes to understanding the One reality out of which this moment arises and into which it subsides the intellect is severely limited. Reason can only operate on predefined things, using labels and procedures in a logical way. What is beyond the “wheelhouse” of the mind is not just the “ship” itself (the individual as a whole) but also and especially the “ocean” upon which it sails.

To know ultimate reality—the Ocean—another way must be opened. For millennia, teachers from Krishna to Baba Ram Das, have agreed that this pathway is meditation, contemplation, prayer, envisioning. If anything can provide us a direct experience of The Real it is the stilled, mind opening into wordlessness.

These five contemplations are visual experiences approaching The Real from five distinct starting points:

    1. The portal of Formlessness as described in the Tao Te Ching.
    2. The Mind as illuminated in Buddhist teachings—the Dhammapada, etc.
    3. The path to God as understood in Sufi traditions (with the proviso that the name, “Allah” is the all-encompassing name, not The Real itself).
    4. Karma, if by this we mean the dynamic flow of existence through which everything manifests and dissolves in accord with cosmic law..
    5. Tantra, if by this we mean the transformative potential of conscious experience.

To benefit from these visual contemplations these precise instructions must be followed carefully:

    1. Sit in front to the screen with both feet on the ground.
    2. Adjust the audio volume so that it is just audible. View on full screen by clicking the box on the lower right corner of the player.
    3. Observe. Breathe. Observe.
    4. Nothing else. Absolutely nothing else.

These dynamic contemplations have been created by the Sufi teacher and digital artist, Puran Lucas Perez. Any questions or comments can be addressed to him at puran@sufiway.org. The forms, colors and movement in each of these pieces have arisen from the study of the 5 elements as described by Hazrat Inayat Khan in The Sufi Message and from the artist’s own decades of visualization-meditation. These visualizations are definitively non-definitive. In other words, these flows of images do not mean anything. Although employing recognizable imagery, they do not represent anything, they are only what they actually are. And what is that? Movement, change, emergence. The audio is not music; it is not intended to be listened to in the same way. It is a dimensioning of non-material “space”. The image in the God contemplation is the name “Allah” rendered in kufic calligraphy. Of course, to an English reader it may appear to say, “all 1”  Produced by See Hear Now ― www.seehearnow.studio copyright © 2018 Puran Lucas Perez — www.puranperez.com
